As the reader will see in this piece...humor can come in the strangest ways...and now it's up to the person to capture the moment, etc.
Hiccups are annoying little devils (hiccup), and what happened to me, can happen to anyone, and was not very funny at the time...but, I've been out of the hospital for over 6 months, now (hiccup), and I can look back and have a little chuckle, etc.
I was having lunch at home when the stroke happened, (hiccup), and within five minutes, I was in the ambulance...heading for the hospital. (hiccup)
I was told by doctor's, that the stroke started where my head comes to a point (I guess I'm a cone-head), and worked its way down, blowing out the fuses to the swallowing muscles (hiccup), and down into the body, etc. Because I couldn't swallow for the first week in the hospital, a feeding tube was shoved up my nose, and down into my stomach, and this was the way I was fed and medicated for the first week. (hiccup)
When I was in the ambulance, I started to throw-up, and I threw up 18 times in the first day I was in the hospital. (hiccup) I really took a beating the first week I was in the hospital, etc. Doctors told me that my esophagus was bleeding, and there was more bad news. I started to hiccup, and this would last for about 8 days...night and day, I had the hiccups. (hiccup)
For our friends and neighbors around the world, who may not know the meaning of the word, hiccup, I will define it for them. (hiccup)
hiccup; (definition); a spasm of the diaphragm, resulting in a rapid, involuntary inhalation that is stopped by the sudden closure of the glottis and accompanied by a sharp, distinctive sound;
Eight days of hiccups I suffered...night and day...without stop. I usually get rid of hiccups by holding my breath, while drinking water. (hiccup) My first week in the hospital, I was not allowed to drink water...so, I just had to do the best I could with the hiccups night and day! (hiccup)
Add the coughing to it...night and day...and I got very little sleep. I found the answer to the relentless coughing, but it wasn't until I was discharged from the hospital. It was the lisinopril medication for blood pressure that had me coughing all day and night. (hiccup)
I did a little math, before I was discharged from the hospital, and the numbers went like this. If I had the hiccups every 10 seconds...in a 24 hour day, and for eight days...I suffered nearly 2,000 hiccups for the eight days! WOW! I got practically NO sleep during this week, and, with the swollen eyes, because of lack of sleep, I must have looked like a 'tree full of owls.' (hiccup)
After I was discharged from the hospital, I get the hiccups occasionly...about once a week, and I just hold my breath while drinking water, and they go away.
I was told by doctors, that strokes come in two varieties for your convenience...with or without the hiccups. So, when you have YOUR own stroke...be sure to order your stroke without hiccups...you'll be glad you did. (hiccup)
