DISCIPLINE Gives a Person More HOPE..

At the age of 68 in 2013, I have accomplished some pretty good things during my lifetime, and I don't think I could have accomplished them without discipline in my life. Case in point...

I come from a family of ten kids, and my mother saw to it, that we were disciplined and well-mannered, something you don't see a lot in the kids of today.  I don't think a person has to spank a child...to discipline that child, but the person has to lay down the rules, and be consistent.  You can't be back and forth...back and forth...

My mother was the disciplinarian of the family, and she had a big black belt that she kept in one of the drawers in the kitchen.  When she opened that drawer, and we could all here it in the back bedrooms, we all knew we were in trouble, and could expect a spanking.

We didn't get a spanking, unless we did something wrong, and my mother was quick to give us that spanking. I have to say, we were well-mannered kids, and as I grew up, I became more and more thankful to my mother, for the discipline she taught us.  It would proove to be such a valuable tool, as we all grew up. 

My first real test, of how being a disciplined person, was in 1965, at the age of 19, and when I joined the US Air Force.  I was already a disciplined kid, and being so, was such a value during the rest of my life. 

I spent about 5 months in boot camp and in tech school, and there was discipline all over the place for months!  Because I was a disciplined person, I rarely got in trouble.  I just promised myself, that I would do what I was told to do, and do it the best I can.  During that 5 months, I saw people all around me, who had problems with being disciplined.  Some were even kicked out of the Air Force, and were picked up by the US Army, who would kick the snot out of them.  Take a look at the short list, where discipline helped me get so many accomplishments over my lifetime; 

US Air Force; Discipline helped me get through four years of the military, and leave the military with an honorable discharge;

Jail time:  Many of the people in prison all across the country, are there because there was no discipline in their household.  I have never been in jail, and that's probably because I consider myself a disiplined person. I can also thank my mother, because she taught us disipline and to respect others; other people's property; and other people's opinion, etc.  She taught us a work ethic, and to have manners everywhere we went.

Teaching discipline to the kids; With two boys, I knew discipline would be important in the boys life, so I taught them discipline and responsiblity.  Both boys gratuated from high school and went on to graduate from college;

Quitting smoking;  I quit smoking in 1969 at the young age of 24, and it took disipline to do it.  It was harder to quit smoking back then, because there were ads on television and billboards of Joe Camel and the Marlbaro Man everywhere you looked in magazines and television.  I think it's easier to quit smoking in 2013, and it took me about a year to quit, and it's one of the best things I've done for myself; my family; those around me, and for my pets, too.

Losing weight; In 2001, I lost over 40 pounds, and I can thank discipline for it...I stayed with it, and it also took me over a year to do it.  I don't think there are any rules in losing weight, but I used discipline to accomplish my goals.  It also took me a years to lose the weight...

High Blood Pressure; (The Silent Killer);  Because of an injury to my neck and upper spine, I have struggled with high blood pressure for over 40 years.  I almost didn't get into the Air Force in 1965.  Because of this, I didn't think I would live to be 55 years old...and 55 has come and went.  I didn't think I would live to be 60, and 60 came and went; I didn't think I would live to be 65, and 65 came and went.  But, trying to deal with this medical problem for over 40 years took discipline to stay with it...OR ELSE.

PaceMaker; In 2006, a pacemaker was implanted in my body, and I wore it for 6 years.  In 2011, I changed HMO's and I wanted my new cardiologists to remove the pacemaker, if everything showed I was in good health.  In 2012, I suffered a strok, which I survived, and I thought the pacemaker had something to do with it.  Because of the stroke, I wanted the pacemaker taken out more than ever.  I was told in August, 2012. I was told by my cardiologist, that everything was ready to go for the surgery to take the pacemaker out.  That date was January 8, 2013, and I didn't know if if had the patience and discipline to wait.  FINALLY...January 8th came around and the pacemaker was removed.

Small business; Everyone wonders if Social Security and Medicare will survive, and I'm wondering, too.  Because things are getting more and more expensive to live, I thought I would start a small business on the Internet at the age of 68.  It involves my 374 articles, and I will have to polish all the articles and re-write some.  This will take me all 2013 to do it, and I will have to have patience and discipline to do it.  The reader can learn more, by going to the following link;
