The main goal of distraction is to get us out of our head and to connect us with our body and heart.

There are situations where distraction is a must and there are situations where focus is a must.

Let us look at both situations and rational and need for both cases.

In some situations distraction can be disastrous and focusing is a must:

  • Surgeries
  • Working with heavy equipment
  • Driving
  • Landing and take off

The task of focusing is basically guidance and mastery over our mind to accomplish tasks.

However, when for various reasons, we delegate mastery over our mind to our thoughts (or other’s thoughts);   Distraction is required to create a balance. Some of situations where balancing act/distraction are required:

  • Excessive worry
  • Racing Mind
  • Stress
  • Negative self-talk
  • Mild pains
  • Watching commercials of any sort
  • Creative work and problem solving

The main goal of distraction is to get us out of our head and to connect us with our body and heart.

Breading, meditation, gratitude, physical activities, sufficient sleep, being in nature, music and dance are some of the very useful methods to connect with our body and to become whole again.

What percentage of your day do you use your mind to focus on tasks?

What percentage of your day do you invest in balancing acts?

Have the ratio of those two increased or decreased over the past six months?

Very good advice again. I have found that multitaskers often get so distracted that they make mistakes, forget things, and otherwise take longer to do tasks by trying to do too many at once. The cause of some small stove fires in my house. Thankfully not big fires, yet.

I have just the opposite kind of distraction. When I am reading and responding, writing with my left brain working very hard, all of the spasms, aches and pains and irritations just go away until I look up and realize that they been gone while I was actively writing. So when I go into my brain deeply, my body loses all of the painful indicators it was sending my way.

But I certainly do engage in those balancing acts that you describe because I can't concentrate like I do while writing all day long. Never have been, except that I did it far longer when I was younger. However, while getting my brain and body balanced, sometimes I start to feel spasms and other indications that my body needs to do certain functions that I didn't feel the whole time I was writing.

Ron

PS. Breading may be an activity, but Reading certainly is.
