From my own experience of driving/riding with colored, I was profiled and stopped for stupid reasons seven or eight times, much more than when driving alone or with other white people. And, the police tended to target my passengers rather than me when I was driving.

I know of people given ridiculous jail sentences for minor offenses. I don't doubt that police are frightened when approaching someone they have stopped, and their experience may lead them to be more aggressive with people of color than those they perceive as less dangerous. In some cases, I think they want to "shoot first," afraid that they might be ambushed when someone reaches for something as simple as their driver's license.

I think police training should include simulations that are readily available now that would help them experience these stressful situations and then view their responses until they learn what the right responses are. It would save a lot of lives. Buddies will always be buddies and lie to cover up bad behavior. Body cams and the ubiquitous cell phone camera are beginning to show what has always been there--disparate treatment for those of color--especially, brutality and killing.
