I read your remarks and your letter to the Cuban people. While people might point to the economy of Cuba and say that communism does not work, the primary reason that Cuba could not prosper was largely the restraints on trade inflicted by the United States and other countries so that Cuba's productivity could not be traded for other things.
There is no denying that Castro treated his opposition, not all from the old regime, with brutal cruelty and death. And that he ruled as a dictator (and not as a true communist) for his entire political career. But he was charismatic and that's something we need to pay attention to. Often charismatic people are really not the best people to lead.
