I am not here on Earth by accident.
I have a purpose for being here and
it is my purpose-driven life that
answers the question "Why Am I Here?

        Why Am I Here? What is the Purpose of My Life? These are two interwoven questions that have a single answer. However,  there is a reason for posing both questions. Each of these questions has its own specificity. To answer the question "Why am I Here?" cannot be answered apart from answering the question, "What is the Purpose of my Life?"
       As for the purpose of your life, do not ask "What is the purpose of my life?" because life has already asked you "What is the purpose of your life." Your behavior, in all its expressions, attempts to answer this question. But for many people too often they are waiting for someone else or some other external force to answer this question which is never forthcomnig. More than anything else purpose gives a definitive and absolute answer, not only to "what," but to "why," "how," "where," and "when" of life.
         The purpose-driven answer to "Why Am I Here" has four components or divisions that actualize toward Self-completion. They are:
    (1) To Grow. Immediately after the birth of the new born the concern of the parent is focused on the growth of the infant. That concern about growth continues long after the birth of the child. It continues during the person's developing, in every stage of his life, as a child, teenager, young adult and beyond. This is not just about physical growth -  it is also about the mental, emotional and spiritual growth -- about maturing into fullness personhood. Growth requires nurturing, cultivating and exposure to factors that are risky.
     (2) To Serve. Serving is both self-serving and serving others. The serving should be centered in Divinity that is within everyone. "The Kingdom is within you." Do not neglect serving yourself in a manner that is in keeping with being your own best friend which means being good, better and best for yourself." "I ain't much to whoever" must never be your mantra. You are significant which means being more significant than your Most Significant Other, if you have one. Declare to yourself  "I am a child of the Universe." You have a right to be here.
     But serving yourself cannot be a substitute for serving others. Serving others is also a reason for being in this world. Remind yourself that others served you before you were able to serve yourself. Other people are to be served as you would serve a friend. It does not seem burdensome to serve a friend. One serves a friend with gladness. It was Jesus who said, "I call you no more a sevant but a friend." What a difference when serving a friend. It is serving without expecting reciprocity. Even when serving a suffering person, caring for a person who is unable to care for himself, the server has satisfaction. My newest friend informed me how for nearly a decade she took into her home a debilitated and suffering father and gave him lovely care before he made his transition. Her testimony reminded me to emphasize here what it means to serve as a friend a suffering person. She served with gladness and gratitude.
    (3)  To Worship the Creator.  Worship may be defined as reverence offered to God. The essence of worship is devotion to and adoration for the Creator. Worship can be continually, a component of one's lifestyle. There is a statement in the Bible which says "Pray continually" (1st Thesssalonians 5:17). Prayer is worship. Worship can  and should be continually. "Pray in the spirit at all times," is the admonishment of Apostle Paul. (Ephesians 6:18). Whenever a person focuses on the Divine and is centered on the "Kingdom within" worship is taking place.
      Creation constantly reminds, even propells humans to worship. "O worship the Creator," is the voice of the soul. To behold nature, with its many manifestations, observe the Cosmos that is evident and awesome, while walking in the forest or looking at the moon, stars and sun, feeling the gentle breeze from the invisible wind, listening to the waves when near the ocean, or beholding oneself who has been so marvelously created or acts of worship.
        There are two kinds of worship, private and public. They both have a place. Public worship brings people into fellowship with other worshppers who can hear their testimonies, share his and see and feel their presence. Coporate worship can have a legitimate place in the life of the worshipper. However, a person does not have to attend a church, mosque or synagogue to worship God anymore than a person has to attend a public or private schcool, or a college to become educated. My paternal Grandfather, born in slavery, who impacted my life more than any other man, and Abraham Lincoln who was  President of the United States did not attend school to acquire an education. To reiterate, coporate worship just as schools and colleges can be useful. A person in a prison cell can be at liberty in his soul and worship the Creator.  
     Most importantly, is private worship. This is worshipping when there is nobody present but you and the Creator who is omnipotent - all-powerful; omniscient - all-knowing; and omnipresent - all-present. Worshipping can occur while driving your automobidle, walking in the woods, verbally or silently, communicating and communing with the Creator, engaging in meditation, prayer, singing, contemplation and pure silence. It is in such times that God speaks most profoundly and with clarity. Not is it that He does not always speak with clarity, but often when He speaks we are not worshipping Him or hearing the message intended for us.   
     (4) Enjoyment. Life without enjoyment is like life without meanng. Life without enjoyment and meaning is empty survival, robotism, and torment. Enjoyment is the season of human experience and the sensory awareness which declares that meaning is the meaning of all eternity and that the mystic discoveries of all the tomorrows are internalized in the spiritual choices of today - the eternal now.
     Enjoyment is more than pleasure or happiness that may be fleeting or short lived. Enjoyment has longevity. Unlike pleasure and happiness enjoyment can be experienced when there is suffering and inconveniences. Or, when caring for a person who is suffering, as I indicated earlier when referencing my new friend.
      Perhaps, there is no better way to end this discussion on enjoyment than to ponder these words of C.S. Lewis:
            Than to enjoy delight with liberty
         What more felicity can fall to creature!
