George Floyd's murder and the conviction of his killer Derek Chauvin.

George Floyd, a black man, was murdered in Minnapolis, Minnesota, while being arrested on suspicious of using a counterfeit $20.00 bill. Derek Chauvin, a white police officer knelt on Floyd's neck for nine minutes and twenty-nine seconds, after he had been handcuffed and lying face down. Two other offices assisted Chauvin and two other officers prevented bystanders from interfering with the arrest.
    After nearly a year of protesting by people in many cities in the United states and some other countries who viewed photos of Chauvin kneeling on Floyd's neck while bystanders pleaded with Chauvin to take his knee off Floyd's neck on April 20, 2021 a jury composed of a black woman, two multiracial women, two white men, three black men and four white women, twelve jurors, found Derek Chauvin guilty on three charges in the death of George Floyd, second- and third-degree murder and second degree manslaughter.
    Indeed, this is a cause for optimism for Black Americans who have experienced Black men in particular but also Black women being killed by white policemen with immunity, not being held accountable for killing unarmed Black men.
     With the conviction of Chauvin this may very well indicate that police accountability for killing unarmed black people will become a practice. This is the moment for laws and policies to be enacted that will ensure enforcement of humane and reasonable police practices. Systemic racism must end in America.
      In 1992 Rodney King, in Los Angeles was brutally beaten by policemen. Like the George Floyd murder a video captured the torture of King. Since King's attack by policemen hundreds of black people have been murdered by policemen.      The fight must continue as we struggle for equality and justice for black people and all people.
