It seems that what our founding fathers instilled in us is indeed alive and well. Watching the “mob” exercise its inalienable rights as a “free people” gave this citizen hope that America and its ideals will not perish from the earth…without a fight.

The “mob” in question were for the most part senior citizens that came well prepared with information to town-hall meetings across these fruited plains. They were of course ridiculed and slandered (just as those Tea Party protests were months ago), by a main stream media that has long ago obfuscated its responsibility as a free, open and none biased press.

They were called a “mob” “un-American”  “phonies” and were even compared to terrorists by the very people that have usurped the constitution and squandered trillions of tax payer dollars, strong arming industries, and destroying small business across the country with punitive taxation. These so called law makers that were elected by the same people they now ridicule, have the audacity to question our right to hold them accountable and to exercise our first amendment right, that of free speech…least we forget they work for us.

Watching Senator Arlen Specter trying to navigate his own town-hall meeting through well informed citizens, was at times painful and indeed an education. It was obvious to me that he hadn’t read this monstrous healthcare bill. Astoundingly however many concerned citizens in attendance had, and I suspect it surprised the Senator in just how well informed his constituents were. 

And it seems that Senator Specter’s debacle wasn’t an isolated case. Indeed, this scenario of well informed citizens attending town-hall meetings across the country caught many law-makers off guard and many had to admit that they hadn’t read the bill.

Their excuse; the bill was simply too big to read. Imagine if you will a legal document that will in effect; affect your life in a profound way. Would you simply sign off on it, or would you read every word of it? Of course you’d read every word of it!

Obviously, the Senator Specters of the world, don’t live in our world, they’ve exempted themselves time and again, from the laws they vote on, that affects us.

However, the issue goes beyond healthcare reform to our very existence as a republic and as a free society. Our founding fathers set forth in our Constitution principles that limited government intrusion in our lives and a unique check and balance system between the three branches of government, to insure those rights, and they warned against a powerful centralized government…their words are etched in stone all across this nation; Thomas Jefferson wrote. “When the government fears the people there is liberty; when the people fear the government there is tyranny.    

What has become apparent to me is that this President wants to change the core principles of our country, he believes that power derives from the government and not in its people; if he did he would not have attempted to ram this monstrous legislation through without due diligence and honest debate. This healthcare reform bill will affect our lives in the most profound ways, and yet few if any of our law makers have read it

Irregardless of what he says at news conferences and town-hall meetings, this president has a vision for America that is simply at odds with the American people and our founding fathers.

What is even more troubling is that with all of his god given talents, this president simply doesn’t know how to govern and that will eventually be his undoing, because he’s already awakened the sleeping giant...the voters of this great country.
