First let me profess this by stating from the outset, that I have a bias towards this administration. I didn’t vote for President Obama, and after witnessing the debacle of the last 10-months of his administration, one can only imagine what the next three years will bring…”God help us”!

I had hoped that after the election, President Obama would have taken his oath of office seriously and continued what his predecessor had begun.  However, rather then treating the “war on terrorism” for what it is “a war” he choose to view  it as nothing more then a few “isolated extremists” (his words), and putting America once again, at risk. Sadly, under this administration we’ve become once again vulnerable to attack.

The truth of the matter is simply this…after 9/11 President Bush did everything in his power as Commander-in-Chief to protect us, irregardless of what it might do to his presidency. Of course he paid the price for it, thanks in part to a fickle populace and a partisan congress that quickly turned against him once the imminent danger of attack, no longer existed.  

However, I believe that history will show like Sir Winston Churchill who was ridiculed by his own Parliament for being the lone voice in denouncing Hitler’s aggressions prior to World War II, that President Bush was the right man, at the right time in our nations history, to protect and defend this nation against a ruthless and barbaric enemy. Imagine if you will, for a moment that Obama rather then Bush were president on 9/11…a scary thought indeed!

Within the last 10-months our nation has gone from being proactive to reactive against terrorist assaults. We’ve systematically dismantled our ability to interrogate effectively our enemy’s and have demoralized our intelligence community, accusing them and the previous administration of lying and worse yet,  politicizing our national security. 

I began this article by admitting that I’m biased of this administration, and I make no apologies for that assessment. I believe that we as a people are in peril and the dangers we face are real. What took place at Fort Hood and aboard flight 253 on Christmas Day, I fear, is just the beginning of what may lie ahead for us, as a nation.

Incredibly, after the attack on Christmas day, it took this president over 3-days to meekly respond, to what can best be described, as the most significant breach of our national security since 9/11. Worse yet he did not think it important enough to immediately cut his vacation short and rush back to the White House, indeed none of his top security officials had the foresight or a  sense of urgency to end their holiday vacations, and rush back to Washington.

Watching this president and his top security advisors vacillate on our national security is troublesome, and one can’t help but wonder what it would finally take for this president not only to admit that there is indeed a “war on terror” but to actually prioritize his policies and live up to his oath of office “to protect and defend”…another 9/11? 

Unfortunately, this president has become a victim of his own skewed ideology, so much so, that he’s foolishly undermining his own credibility in keeping the homeland safe…he simply can’t bring himself to admit, that despite the missteps of the previous administration, the “Bush Doctrine” as a policy did indeed keep America safe after 9/11. His adolescent “Bush bashing” approach, and his inability to take full responsibility for his own actions is a dangerous commodity for any chief executive and as

Commander- in- Chief puts this nation more at risk.    

Some on the far left may argue that under the Bush Administration we became too aggressive in our polices to protect and defend our citizenry and that our own civil liberties (and that of our enemies) were being abused, and that would be a fair argument if that indeed were the case.   

However, my friends on the left and sadly this administration seems to forget, that what took place on 9/11 is tantamount to what took place in  Nazi Germany in the late 30’s and 40’s…in that innocent civilizens were and are purposely targeted for extinction. Worse yet, the enemy we face has no recognized governments and no formal military to hold accountable, and thus “the rules of engagement”  under the Geneva Convention does not apply…terrorists deserve NOTHING, but to be aggressively pursued, killed, captured and tried under a military tribunal. To do anything else is simply fool-hardy, and counter productive, and of course puts our nation at risk.

Being a New Yorker, and witnessing first hand the carnage of 9/11. And then hearing a decade later the convoluted reasoning by this administration, in having civilian trials held only blocks from Ground Zero on those who perpetrated this horror is insane, and speaks volumes of this administrations, arrogance, lack of common sense, sensitivity, and world experience.
