Wolfsheim, comprised of Markus Reinhardt and vocalist Peter Heppner;
obtained their name from the gangster mentor in the F. Scott Fitzgerald’s
classic novel The Great Gatsby. Their sound is a combination of Depeche
Mode’s Violator and A Broken Frame. Innocent, longing, searching...
Casting Shadows marks Wolfsheim’s sixth full length album in the past
sixteen years. Beautiful, pure synth-pop, every song is captured in a bare
bones style that exemplifies Peter Heppner’s honest and sensitive voice.
This the classic sound that many of today’s bands would give their right
arm to capture, and yet few can master.
Strong songs on the album include “And I”, “Find Your Gone”, “Approaching
Lightspeed”, and “In Time”.
Subjects explored on Casting Shadows include a myriad of questions about
love and relationships that have been asked since Time began. Do we stay?
Do we leave? Can we trust? Are we insensitive if we feel nothing when
someone leaves us? Do we choose to love someone, or does it just happen?
Casting Shadows is Wolfsheim at the top of their game.
