The sadness that even in death politicians will lineup their partisan base for the good of the party

It is pathetic that even as Sen. Edward Kennedy has lost his battle with brain cancer, the partisan lines are drawn and “politics as usual” have taken the spotlight away from the late Senator. I am no Kennedy fan; I am no fan of politicians across the board, for that matter. But can’t the politicians and the media have a 72-hour “political silence” time to let a person be buried without health care or an appointee being the main topic instead of another person dying from cancer?
Honestly, Sen. Kennedy was in the middle of the Massachusetts appointee problem himself when he supported legislation passed in his home state in 2004/2005 that required a special election within five months of a political official’s vacancy. Back in 2004 Governor Romney (Republican) wanted to appoint a replacement for Senator John Kerry, who was believed to become the next U.S. President (http://news.bostonherald.com/news/opinion/op_ed/view/20090821kennedy_late_coming_to_succession_principle). The whole politics is explained in this article as well as the actual law that DEMOCRATS pushed through in 2004, saying it would be “undemocratic” for a governor to have the ability to appoint a replacement for elected office.
So Senator Kennedy, weeks before his death, wanted the very law HE pushed to passage reversed so that there now would be no election and Democratic Governor Deval Patrick could appoint another Democrat to the U.S. Senate. In fact, on today’s CNN morning show Governor Patrick tried to make the point “the people opposed to my appointing a Senator are the same people who favored appointing people in 2004” or words to that effect. Well, Governor Patrick, you could also say that the late Senator Kennedy and all of his partisan patsies are bigger hypocrites because they called the attempt by then Governor Romney to appoint someone to replace Senator Kerry as “undemocratic.” How can you not see this through the same Democrat-colored glasses from 2004? In fact, Senator Kennedy pushed for the special election provision.
It just goes to show you that even after death, politicians are still being politicians. The media will now play up a “Senator Ted Kennedy Universal Health Care Plan” or some other pathetic and patronizing name that is supposed to make all Americans rush to support the government intervention and/or takeover of our health care system.
Shame on the media and the politicians for using the Senator’s death as an opportunity to pass an expensive, complex and unfathomable health care plan. These politicians and their media friends have no morals; the death of Senator Kennedy is just another example of how ludicrous the entire political process is in this country. We can’t go one news cycle without the partisan lines being formed to jam more politics down our throats.
Rest in peace, Senator Kennedy. And give it a rest, media and politicians. We are all sick of the games you continually play even with the passing of another cancer victim.
