Reticulate Australia ... no pipedream !~!

Australia has been ravaged by drought, in
regular cycles, that have been in force
for many thousands of years.

To eliminate the boom-bust cycle in our
rural economy, Australia must take
measures to make this dry continent
drought-proof.

We have the water resources and it IS
technically possible, we just need a
government with enough foresight to
make the initial moves on this huge
infrastructure project .....

Hi folks,

It is only in times of drought, that we Australians
are confronted with the real issues of water
management in this dry continent.

If we face the facts, there is NO SHORTAGE of WATER,
but there IS a huge deficit in the distribution
network of the UNUSED water resources that currently
exist in this country ...!~!

Water is a resource that should come under a NATIONAL
strategy, instead of being left to the States to
handle with inadequate policies and infrastructure.

Reticulate Australia ... Watering Australia:

Call it what you will, a federal body MUST be established
to co-ordinate a plan to effective DISTRIBUTE the FRESH
water resources that have already been identified.

Firstly, we need to identify the areas most affected
by drought years and those reservoirs that can be
used to feed them.

Huge reservoirs, like on Cubbie Station and the natural
lakes districts of Western Victoria, for example.

Let's look at the needs of Australia, state-by-state.

In the west, Perth has a dire need to have its main
water storage dams and reservoirs filled again .....
every year water restrictions only serve to stretch
the dwindling supply a liitle longer.

In Adelaide, the drinking water supply is considered
the worst in Australia, with much of it being drawn
from the dregs at the end of the Murray River.

Victoria has some huge lakes that are now completely
dry, due to drought and current mismanagement water
resources. Controlled flow of the Murray River also
creates problems downstream for many commercial water
users and recreational activities.

Western New South Wales has more dire problems in
the Darling River ..... lack of water has seen
many farmers under threat, along with the knock-on
effect that has in every small town, that relies
on the Darling River catchment for its water supply.

Likewise Northern New South Wales has similar problems
in its waterways and these are also reflected across
the border in Southern Queensland.

..... and of most concern to all Australians, is the
Murray river ..... lifeblood of three southern states
and a river showing considerable stress.

At the head of the Murray is the Hume Weir, currently
filled to only 20% of capacity ..... by keeping the
Hume Weir filled to optimum levels, critical industry
and environmental programs in those 3 states could
move forward with confidence.

Reticulate Australia - the fix - a network

of duplex pipelines - this is no pipedream:


Described as the largest infrastructure project,
since the Snowy River Scheme, Reticulate Australia
has the potential to bring into reality the dreams
of forward-thinkers, like Ernie Bridge, billionare
Richard Pratt and C.Y. O'Connor ....

Imagine the benefits to farmers across the nation,
a water supply that never runs dry!!

Broadacre irrigation to ensure bumper grain crops
and cotton crops ...... EVERY YEAR!!

Few Australians realise, that although we have
exported this technology to desert countries,
like Libya ... we have done precious little to
drought-proof our own back yard.

Piped water can also help to open up new land
that was previously marginal, due to lack of
regular rainfall.

From the Kimberley, a SHORT pipeline to maintain
underground reserves in the Officer Basin and
then onto Kalgoorlie, Perth and the dry interior
of the South-west of Western Australia.

Few realise that Kalgoorlie is actually some
360 metres ABOVE Perth, so the pumping costs
to supply the dams of Perth will be very tiny
in comparison to the long-term benefits.

Even without replenishment, from the Ord River
scheme, the Officer Basin has the capacity to
supply Perth with water for over 400+ years !~!

Fill the old gold mining pits, regional dams
and lakes to optimum levels to encourage local
industry, leisure and tourism activities.

Another water line from the Officer Basin to be
run eastwards, in tandem with a gas pipeline
from Kalgoorlie to the Palm Valley gasfields,
the onwards to Alice Springs and Moomba.

From there, both water and gas can be
distributed in this DUAL-PIPE configuration
to link with established eastern networks and
create new links to critical dams, waterways
and reservoirs at the head of our failing
eastern waterways.

A couple of huge reservoir examples in the
Eastern states is the "Cubbie Station" complex,
in South-west QLD and the ancient lakes
system around Pine Lake in western Victoria,
that are currently bone-dry.

If we were to fill and maintain, the Hume Weir
at optimum capacity, we will solve many problems,
relating to water supplies in 3 states, with
this one SIMPLE option.

We have the water, we have the technology,
let's get a committment from the pollies to
stand up and lobby for a common-sense approach
to maintaining both WATER and ENERGY supplies,
across the WHOLE nation.

Towing icebergs from Antarctica or an expensive
giant offshore desalination plant is NOT the
answer for Australia. Nor is the desalination of
our seas and dams.

We already have the CLEAN water and gas and the
technology, let's secure a water and energy
supply for you children and their children too.

Reticulate Australia will ensure water supplies
to farmers across the length and breadth of
Australia.

Reticulate Australia will support new ventures
in rural areas, such as inland fisheries,
aquaculture and tourism.

Reticulate Australia will give Adelaide a new
and cleaner water supply ..... believe this,
i have personally lived on that Officer Basin
water for over 9 months, without any treatment,
straight out of the ground and it is tastes
better than some of the water in our city
supplies ....

Reticulate Australia will guarantee Perth a
water supply for generations to come.

Reticulate Australia will also guarantee water
to give us irrigated crops, EVERY year.

Reticulate Australia already has huge reserves,
bigger than 3 times Sydney Harbour ..... and
with the replenishment of that storage, during
the Kimberley "wet season", that storage can
be maintained for HUNDREDS of years to come.

Reticulate Australia will employ a workforce
comparable to that involved in the Darwin
rail project, during construction and will
also provide many jobs in the future, across
the breadth of Australia.

Reticulate Australia will fill the huge Cubbie
Station reservoirs and it will maintain a steady
release of water, so that the Darling River
can also maintain a healthy flow rate.

Reticulate Australia will fill other regional
reservoirs like Pine Lakes in Victoria and
many other dams at the head of our most
important waterways, in all states.

Reticulate Australia will be a huge infrastructure
project that will underpin the future of Australia
by guaranteeing water and energy supplies for
our childrens' future .....

of water management ..... salinity ..... but that

Hi folks,

An announcement by Phillips on Friday night,said that
it will proceed with the gas pipeline into Darwin from
the Timor Sea.

This project will make supporters of the massive "Reticulate
Australia" project very happy ..... their twin pipelines of
gas and water will drought-proof Australia and also provide
a gas network that will link all the major producers.

Water will be provided from the Ord River and Officer Basin
to link up with a parallel gas line from the Browse Basin,
North-west shelf and Kalgoorlie, then east to Palm Valley
and Moomba to link with the current gas grid to the eastern
states.

Gas from the Phillips' project will also be piped to Moomba
or Palm Valley to provide additional capacity.

Water will be used to maintain optimum levels in current
reservoirs and help to take pressure off ground water
supplies.

Reticulate Australia is the largest infrastructure project
in Australia since the Snowy River Scheme, nearly 50 years
ago.

Hi folks,

It is appropriate, that as we mark the centenary
of C.Y.O'Connor's death this week that we should
now seriously consider reversing the water flow
... from the Ord River to the Officer Basin, on
to Kalgoorlie, then through to ALL of Perth's
water reservoirs.

C.Y.O'Connor proved it can be done 100 years ago!!

We have the NEED and we have the techonology,
all we NEED now is the political will to make
the South-West corner of W.A. drought-proof.

For too long, the people of Perth have been
held hostage during the summer months, by tight
water restrictions.

Let's not talk about grandiose ideas of towing
icebergs from Antartica or VERY expensive
reverse osmosis of sea water ... these ideas
have been brought forward by the water
corporation and should be rejected, for they
are really revenue-making scams for the state
government.

Instead, let's DEMAND that they utilise both
the resources and technology that we have now
to Reticulate W.A ... and Australia.

If the pipeline from the Ord River Scheme to
the Officer Basin is built simultaneously,
then our water supply will be maintained
with an acceptable level of solids and
salinity.

(There was some scarmongering by the water
corporation about salinity levels in the
Officer Basin ... be assured by somebody
who has lived on the groundwater from that
area ... it is sweet and you can drink it
straight out of the ground, without treatment).

As our dams are stabilised and refilled, then
the aquifers of the Officer Basin can be
replenished by the pipeline from the Ord
River, ensuring an ongoing supply of water in
Perth for our children and the generations
beyond.

All communities in a line from Leinster,
south to Kalgoorlie and west to Perth would
benefit from such a project, as they would
be able to sustain and grow, with their own
local food supplies and businesses reliant
on water.

That also means that the state's population
would be able to grow comfortably, without
the contraints of a lack of water.

Such pipeline projects should also be
considered as part of a national
energy/water grid supplying gas from the
"northern energy arc" and water from the
Ord River and Officer Basin.

This project will become a HOT issue for all
State governments in coming elections, but
especially for the W.A government, since
this will be the source of the energy and
water supplies.

Have your say, copy this message and send it
to the water corporation, the premier and other
relevant government departments.
