Discuss the problems encountered in
defining Jesus,as either God or human:

Doctrinally, Christians accept Jesus was
both fully God and fully Man or two
"natural beings" in one person and such
belief is central to the whole Jesus
story, from incarnation-to-resurrection.

In 451, the Council of Chalcedon DID
define Jesus as having a complete human
nature and being fully Divine, at the
same time.

Indeed, God's work to reconcile humanity
with himself can only be seen in the
Light of accepting Jesus, as BOTH fully
God and fully Man.

Dissent between theologians and
philosophers, like Martin Luther,
Martin Heidegger, Albert Schweitzer,
Rudolph Bultmann and others, has raged
for centuries and will continue to do
so, until world’s end.

Dangers such as, a focus of Jesus
Divinity, at the expense of His
humanity brings the Faith versus Belief
issues to the surface, as even Augustine
in early 5th century, addressed in great
detail, long before those scholars
mentioned above.

Conflict also arises in another core
Christian belief, where Jesus as a
human, was innocent of any sin, but only
through the death of Jesus, believers
are forgiven of sins and reconciled to
God.

Again, some arguments will drive a wedge
between our Faith and our Christian
beliefs, by pointing out that ALL humans
are sinful, so if Jesus was human, then
he was guilty of sin and therefore NOT
God, because as Christians, we believe
our God is not capable of sinning.

Without acceptance of Jesus as BOTH God
and human, further conflict can also
arise for Christians, in our
understanding of another basic tenet
..... God as the Holy Trinity, a single
eternal being, existing in three
entities: Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

Yet another issue arises, with Jesus of
Davidic lineage, fathering children
during his time on earth, as a human.

This notion brings a continued Davidic
lineage, with a Perfect God-man as part
of the family tree and therefore some
of His traits have been passed down to
subsequent generations, as part of the
corporate body of the church, today ...

Another conflict has arisen, as a result
of Christian belief in Jesus as both God
and Human, addressing the question of
elevating a “unique Jesus” to the point
of elitism, where Christianity becomes
unavailable to ALL people on this earth.

It was this very conflict, that led
Christian Michael Morwood to leave the
Catholic ministry, preferring instead to
preach a less elitist and more universal
approach to the Jesus story:
