GENEVA - If you've ever been frustrated after an airline lost your luggage, you're in the good company of millions of others. An estimated 30 million bags were lost by airlines in 2005, and 200,000 of those bags were never reunited with their owners, according to an industry report released Monday.
This reporter is shocked! Airlines lose baggage? I can understand losing a passenger here and there but luggage has those cute little identity tags. It’s like losing a dog with a collar. The only way that ever happens is if someone removes it.
Whoa! I might have something here? 30 million bags…sounds like a conspiracy? Remove the tag and grab the bag. A rather lucrative operation I should think?
Ha! Ha! Just kidding! You know I’m a kidder. There’s no conspiracy…nobody is stealing bags. Relax! They are perfectly safe and secure. The airlines are merely losing them because they are inept.
Isn’t that just like all of us? Think about it, whenever you’ve lost anything it’s because you’ve done something stupid and forgot where you put it, right?
Airlines are human. If they concentrate on bags they may forget to put enough fuel in the plane.
So relax in the knowledge that airlines lose things simply because they are inept and don’t know what they’re doing.
To avoid further anxieties do not refer to this explanation when considering the fact that Airlines actually fly the plane and have complete control over our very lives.
Speaking of clouds…this one does have a silver lining. Hopefully you are familiar with my columns recommending Mother-in-Law excursions. This “bag thing” opens new horizons…in all directions!
Take your Mother-in-Law with you ANYWHERE! Put her in a trunk, (To be thrifty!).
The chances are darn good the airline will lose her. To be sure, sing my little ditty as you do your dirty deed, “Put the bag, in a bag, and throw away the tag!”
Oh, Dear…I just had a dreadful afterthought. Most airlines have auctions where they sell lost/unclaimed luggage. Can you imagine the poor fellow who outbids for that trunk?
