MEMPHIS, Tenn. - A University of Memphis law professor has banned laptop computers from her classroom and her students are passing a petition against it.
Professor June Entman says her main concern is that students are so busy keyboarding they can't think and analyze what she's telling them.
Students have begun collecting signatures on petitions and tried unsuccessfully to file a complaint with the American Bar Association.
This reporter is always taken aback when he hears those glorious words…”American Bar Association”…and then realizes it’s nothing to do with the intoxicating corner locations.
This is obviously a case of, “I didn’t have it, so you won’t have it” which is so prevalent with the highly educated,” says Professor Penwose, “I’m sure the learned professor had some sort of note taking devise that distracted her as much as the laptops.”
A glimmer of light flashed from his dentures as he smiled and added, “She probably had a quill.”
I questioned one student who spoke out vigorously at a protest rally. He said there was no need for the ban since he and virtually all of his friends record the lectures and review later.
I asked, “Then why have the laptops?”
He snapped a very surprised expression of disbelief, “Hey Dude…do you know nothing about Internet sex?”
