NEPAL KING ORDERS PROTESTERS SHOT ON SIGHT

Before I continue please allow me to say that Katmandu, in my opinion, is by far the coolest name for a city ever.

KATMANDU, Nepal - Protesters demanding a return to democracy postponed a rally that had been expected to draw thousands on Saturday, after the king imposed an all-day curfew and ordered violators shot on sight.

(Now there’s a king who knows how to rule! I hope The Bushman doesn’t get similar notions.)

One person was killed and at least two wounded when security forces fired at demonstrators in Pokhara, a resort town 125 miles west of the capital, Katmandu, said Gangadhar Baral, who was among those wounded.

"We were protesting and some of us were throwing stones at the soldiers. Suddenly, the soldiers fired shots at us. One of my friends was killed instantly,"

This reporter flew in on a KATMANDU Air (single-prop) red-eye and was able to interview the patient before he was tortured, ah, I mean questioned by authorities.

“Why did you throw stones at the soldiers?” I asked.

“To break their bones! We called them names but that did not hurt them.”

The remark triggered a jolt of deja vu within me and I hesitated for just a moment. The interview was rudely interrupted as soldiers came in and took Baral away screaming. One asked if I was with him?

“Ah…so sully…no speeki, Katmunduski?”

Once again I was saved by my wits.

Seven main political parties, with the backing of communist rebels, organized the rally as the high point of a four-day general strike that has shut down Katmandu, where King Gyanendra's refusal to give up absolute rule has led to growing unrest.

What is wrong with these people?

Of course he’s going to refuse to give up rule, he’s a King!
Men of royal blood kill to become kings. They kill their own brothers or even the previous king, their own father.

Do they really expect him to step down because they say, “We want a democracy”?

Any king in his right mind, which is rare because of the absolute power thing, would answer such a plea,
”Ok…I’ll vote on it!”
