POLAR BEARS MAY BE LISTED AS THREATENED
WASHINGTON - The Bush administration, under legal pressure from three environmental groups, will propose listing polar bears as threatened under the Endangered Species Act, The Washington Post reported.
The Post, quoting an Interior Department official who spoke on condition of anonymity in advance of the announcement, said the department would submit the proposal Wednesday for publication in the Federal Register.
Editor’s note: For those who are “Reading Between the Lines Impaired” this means there is a mole within the Interior Department leaking information like a sieve.
Once a species is listed as threatened, the government is barred from doing anything to jeopardize the animal's existence or its habitat. While their population has been stable in recent years the bears face threats from global warming, environmental contamination and potential overhunting, (Not to mention Black Market Zoo Trading.)
Editor’s note: Spellchecker in yet another flaunting of it’s infinite wisdom has declared “overhunting” misspelled and suggests overheating, which would be assumed within the realm of global warming I should think, and overhanging, which usually doesn’t come until after the bears are slaughtered in other ways and attached to walls, therefore we will go with the misspelled word and mention in our behalf that it was cut and pasted from an associated press news wire.
In Alaska, only Indians, Aleuts, and Eskimos who live in coastal are permitted to hunt the bears, which they can use for meat and in making native handicrafts.
After declared Endangered nobody will be able to hunt the bears and Indians, Aleuts, and Eskimos will just have to starve.
Federal Express and the United Parcel Service, which expected light volumes of parcels after the holiday season, have been hit with a sudden deluge of gallons of white paint to be distributed, with haste and no need for signatures, to caves throughout the nation.
Hinkly Out!
