If I would have written the script history would be quite different.
Every now and then, while watching a movie, I’ll see something that I would have done differently.
The Ten Commandments is one of those I usually watch every time it aires. This weekend was no exception, and I was amazed to see an obvious scene change that never occurred to me before.
If I had written the original script, history would have been quite different.
To set the stage…Moses has “heard the news,” that he was taken from the river and follows his stepmother to Goshen, where his real mother confesses he is from her loins. He walks around still confused…
“What is different about me? I have the same hands, the same feet, I am still Moses. Nothing has changed.”
My rewrite version
First of all, his mother asks if she can have the basket back?
Then his brother Aaron tells him, “Actually, now that you are Jewish, there is one small alteration we will have to make.” He pulls out a knife and takes Moses aside to explain it to him.
Moses returns and addresses his family…
“Ah, I’ve decided I can help our people more by remaining Egyptian.”
So it shall be written, so it shall be done.
