Professor Ambrose Penwose, Kiwi
Good Evening,
I’ve been gruntled most of my life, until someone ticks me off and makes me disgruntled.
As I lay in bed this morning wondering what to write, a thought came to mind, then another, and another. Before I knew it I had a monumental conception that possibly could absorb my mind and last the rest of my days, unless of course I freeze myself with Cryogenics, but that journey to nowhere is still up in the air as I haven’t even a freezer yet, and this vision has its foot in my door.
As you know I idolize The Devil’s Dictionary, by Ambrose Bierce, written in the early 1900s. When I go there and find a word the definition always tickles my fancy.
It occurred to me an addendum might be utilized, or maybe even a full blown sequel? As far as I know nothing second has been written since the first. I shall remedy that.
The title of the first has always been a wonder to me? I do not wish to glorify the devil, and would not call it God’s Dictionary for fear of using His name in vain.
I will call it Daniel’s Dictionary in honor of my son who sits with God and inspires me. I feel very good about that.
The by line will read, Ambrose Penwose, a name not accidentally derived from Ambrose Bierce.
Obviously in its infant stages the definitions can be counted without utilizing my toes nor my half-finger. Here is that which I now have…
PAIN: The absence of No Pain.
UNABRIDGED: Place by a river with no crossing. Seldom seen in
Pittsburgh.
DISGRUNTLED: The act of not being gruntled.
ADDENDUM: That which is added to a dendum
DENDUM: Previous form of an addendum
WANNABE: Those that aren’t who wish they were
The list will grow with time…theoretically.
Say, maybe that can be definitioned?
