Where does fat go when we diet?

WARNING! DANGER! There is a greater than unlikely chance you will learn a few things by reading this article. If you wish to remain stupid we suggest you do something else.

Professor Ambrose Penwose, Kiwi

When I was a small lad in school we were told that in the world we live in nothing is added or subtracted. Everything merely changes form.

With that in mind I must wonder…when people diet and lose weight, what becomes of the fat?

There are three THINGS, solids, liquids, and gases.
If we were to slice off a hunk of fat as a solid we would see it much like a foot or a finger, so that should eliminate solids in most cases.

If it were to leave the body as a gas we would smell it. That situation is obviously bad enough as it is so we will not go there, besides fat is too heavy to float through the air.

Liquids are all that remain so a simple perception would assume the liquefied fat to seep into the earth and turn into a fossil fuel within a million years or so. I would also assume by then we would be using other methods of energy leaving the fat as useless then as it is on our bodies now.

I decided not to speculate and ran a search on the Internet finding numerous articles on the subject establishing it as important. Here is the one I chose to read along with internal comments of my own.

WHEN WE LOSE WEIGHT, WHERE DOES THE FAT GO?

Even the 150 doctors, dietitians and personal trainers we surveyed shared this surprising gap in their health literacy. The most common misconception was misconcepted so we will not give it. Other misconceptions are likewise omitted.
Only three of our respondents gave the right answer, which means 98% of the health professionals in our survey know nothing.
The correct answer is that fat is converted to carbon dioxide and water. You exhale the carbon dioxide, and pee or sweat out the water.
You have just joined the 2% who/whom know the fate of fat.

So what does this mean to us?
If all of the fat folks in America were to suddenly lose weight together the rivers would rise and we would have more flowers.
Keep to the high ground.

Penwose Out,

I cannot dispute your astute gaseous conclusions. However, my own observation from drains run out from the kitchen to the yard… Fat left the kitchen in the form of grease that clogged the drain and made a smelling messy place in the yard where the drain dumped out. And then, we got city sewer systems and grease traps to take care of that fat and other crap.

From about 1600 to the mid-1800s when kerosene came along, followed by electricity, the primary source of fat for light was krill. Whales ate tons of the little buggers, getting fat. We ate tons of whale meat and then liquefied the whale fat for oil for our lamps. Starting the rise in carbon dioxide in the atmosphere… Yippee!

Bye, George,
Ron
