HOW TO CHANGE A LIGHTBULB

Step 1…Remove old bulb by twisting
Step 2…Install new bulb in reverse of Step 1
Note: If Step 1. was achieved by breakage, do not do Step 2.

There you have it. No more sitting alone in the dark waiting for someone to come along and change a lightbulb, and no need to utilize your, “I’ve fallen and I can’t get up Emergency Button.”
It is so much nicer to do things yourself.
For those of you who/whom still cannot change a lightbulb after reading this far, please refer to specific instructions which will follow after a Geritol break.

Specific Instruction, (Don’t forget to burp.)

#1.) LIGHTBULB INSTALLATION
To change a bulb there must be one there. We assume you are doing this for the first time with a bulb-less socket as though you are in a new house or someone previous stole the others. Here is how to install a bulb before removing it.
Be sure the power and gas are turned off. The gas should always be turned off in case of an explosion, no need for alarm. The power should be turned off to prevent accidental blinding.
Count your fingers, (Only one hand is necessary,) Grasp the desired bulb with as many of your fingers as you feel is sufficient, along with your opposable thumb, place it into the socket, and turn it in the proper direction. Turning in the improper direction will cause it to float in the socket indefinitely without tightening. We do not recommend that direction.
Note: “righty-tighty and lefty-loosey.”…Memorize that! Do not write it down. If you are changing a bulb it will be dark.

#2.) LIGHTBULB REMOVAL
#2 is not necessary if you have installed a bulb by way of #1, (unless you REALLY HAVE TO do #2.)

For the purpose of nothing really we are going to assume there is a bulb within a socket. Otherwise why would we be removing it?
Take safety precautions illustrated above. If you have already done above previously there is no need to count your fingers again, otherwise do so at this time.
Be sure the bulb is cool. Even a Cool White bulb can be hot. We would suggest you have a neighbor check it, but if they could do so why not change the bulb?
Grasp the bulb with as many of your fingers as you feel is sufficient, along with your opposable thumb, and twist it in the proper direction.
Please refer to previous chapter for proper twist direction.
Twisting in the improper direction will tighten it making it difficult to remove. We do not recommend that direction.
If you are unable to twist it, you may use the other hand as well after counting those fingers.
Twist in proper direction until bulb is free from socket.

#3.)
#3 is the reverse of #2 actually, which itself is the reverse of #1.
The reverse is just the opposite.
You can skip the reverse of #2, by just doing the reverse of #1.
There really is no #3, but if you stop after #2 there will be nothing in the socket and still dark when the switch is turned on.

Please pass this along to anyone who/whom needs it.

I have now, thanks to your great article, finally determined how many it takes to change a lightbulb. From what I read, if I'm correct, it only takes one idiot saying to himself, "righty-tighty… righty-tighty" over and over until he gets the job done without falling off the ladder. And one more thing. One should never check to see if there is electricity by licking your index finger and sticking it in the socket.

There are some light bulbs these days that plug rather than screw. So remember, if you try to screw a plug light bulb into its socket, you might screw it up. Screwing can be hazardous to your bulbs.

Bye, George,

Ron
