News isn’t always new as indicated by this headline…

MOST DANGEROUS JOB DURING WORLD WAR II:
B-17 BOMBING RUNS OVER NAZI GERMANY

That is wrong wrong wrong on so many levels.

First of all, common sense, (of which I have uncommon quantities,) would tell us that whatever a Nazi person was doing Under those bombers had to be more dangerous than in them…otherwise we would slay more of them by offering, “Free Flights.”

The actual most dangerous job during World War II concerned different planes, in a different local, at a slightly different time known as The Blitz.

The planes were bombers of The German Luftwaffe, which in itself was more dangerous than flying B17s, due to British Spitfire’s propensity, to shoot them down like proverbial, “Fish in a Barrel.”
Yet they were not the most dangerous job.

Quite like the B-17s, a more dangerous job went to those acting below the bombers.

The title of Most Dangerous Job of World War II, goes hands down to a legendary group of men, which I’ve spoken of often, know as…
The Queens Knights of Piccadilly Royal Fusilier Bomb Catchers.

Those fellows ran about during bombing raids following the whistling sounds of falling bombs and caught the bloody bombs in bushel baskets before they could explode.

One of the single most valiant stories is of a fellow who heard a bomb falling and ran up five flights of stairs to catch a bomb on the roof only to find it missed the building and blew up his bicycle.
Not all stories ended as well.
The Bomb Catchers were singularly responsible for saving many parts of London that are still there.

Their name will live in infamy…or not.
