Thursday is my food shopping day. Yesterday was like black and white compared to previous.
The Thursday before this one was rather bizarre. The shelves were full and so were shopping carts. Everyone was stocking up. Fortunately I did as well tripling my “normal” receipt amount. The lines were long at checkouts. I was lucky to find one with only two folks ahead of me and still was there for over 30 minutes because of their loaded carts, which were filled to the brim. If I had ice cream it would have melted.
This week was different.
I’ve heard of long lines to get into grocery stores, however when I arrived at the Walmart Neighborhood Market, where I shop, there were no lines and folks were coming out with just a few items in their carts. “This would be easy!”
I was taken aback when I walked through the doors.
The shelves looked like Mother Hubbard’s Cupboard.
I’ve been eating salmon for my heart. There was not a single can of salmon. The entire row was empty. The one to the left had just a few items.
The whole store was like that. I considered eggs, but they were all gone. I was lucky to find a bag of bagels and one of the last remaining tubes of toothpaste. I found a few other things that I normally don’t buy but they were better than nothing. I took what I could get.
I breezed through the checkout!
Albertson’s was no better. No roasted chickens…no frozen vegetables…no frozen dinners. I don’t buy much there, which was good cause they didn’t have much. I did find some Ramon noodles and some smoked salmon.
I managed to get enough stuff to sustain me for a few weeks. Next week I’ll go out “Just for The Halibut,”…I mean salmon.
