Last night, Just For The Halibut, I had a thought that I needed to suppress If I wanted to get any sleep at all,l which I did, as I usually do, otherwise why would I go to bed?
It occurred to me the registration on my vehicle was due to run out.
It also occurred to me it may have already run out, which is the thought I had to suppress. I could have easily went to the garage and checked, which would have eased my mind if it was current, but kept me up all night if it was not.
Fortunately I was able to wait until this morning, for it was NOT!
The sticker had a 3 on it. That was easy. I was able to figure it out on my hand with the missing finger. 3 is March…this is April-4. I’m late!
Woe is Me! I’ve become a fugitive!
Back in Pennsylvania, The “Cool Guys,” drive with their left hand over their inspection sticker so the cops won’t see it expired. But How can I cover the license plate on the back of the vehicle?
Note: Cops aren’t stupid. They pull over everyone with their hand over their sticker.
Corona has saved me! Good thing I stocked up on food and stuff so I can hide out from The Fuzz…for a month or so? Actually if I eat a half a bag of popcorn, instead of a full bag, I can double my elusiveness.
But that’s not how Corona saved me.
I went online to the DMV website. Right there right before my eyes in big ol letters is notice of a 90 day extension of registrations because the DMV is closed. GREAT GOOGLIE MOOGLIE I’m saved!
I can continue to stay locked up at home as a Free Man!
Actually, The Corona Virus caused it all.
My registration notice from the DMV usually comes by mail and I act on it. This year it never came, I guess because the office is closed?
Which brings about another problem…when can I get my new registration? I don’t know if SMOG stations are open?…or if I can get a new sticker at a kiosk?
The coronavirus also saved people from having to file their taxes… Until July? Isn't that sweet?
This is how I was saved by Corona. My modified van was a very expensive build. I bought the 2006 Ford Freestar in 2006 for $27,000. After modifications, its value was $130,000. While coming home from a Louisiana trip in 2014. A large rock thrown up by a car in trouble crossing in front of me and hitting the brakes as it hit the shoulder, landed squarely in front of me in my windshield in such a way as to distract me. My immediate response was to poke quickly on my steering and brake. My steering turned abruptly right and my left hand came out of my gas/brake tri-pin. My van did a 90° turn into the green wall of a swamp, knocking down small trees for about 50 yards until a large tree broke and stopped it. The van was declared "totaled," and I was offered $8000 for it.
Down the street was my favorite body shop, Corona, owned by some South America dudes. So I told the insurance company to recalculate. They came up with $23,000 and Corona did the work for $16,500 in about three months. So, Corona saved me. Not from a virus or the DMV, but from losing a lot of money. There was no co-pay. So, Corona saved me too. ;-)
Deputy Dave Jenkins sets out to find the murderer of the local high school principal, aided by a voice from the grave that is sometimes helpful and sometimes misleading.
"Murder isn't usually this funny."
