PITTSBURGH CONNECTION?
Ha Ha…Ha Ha…Ha Ha!
That is what you will say after reading this.

William Powell and Myrna Loy were early Boob Tube stars.

STUPID ASS ALERT!!!
They were early Film stars, as The Boob Tube was yet to be invented. These days they have converted to Boob Tube stars, although they are both too dead to realize it.

I always enjoy their Thin Man series featuring Nick and Nora Charles, a lively couple who solve murders the old fashioned way.
It had to be old fashioned, they are old fashioned.

To give you some idea of the old fashionedism…in the last of the Double Trilogies, (There were six,) they had a son, who was but a twinkle in the first few, but had been born and grown to the ripe old age of 8. They wanted to discipline him, so his mother said,
“You’ll have no radio for a week.”

It was produced in 1947, the year of my production, so you know it’s old.

Another line was spoken that had me do a double-take, but nothing more, until it came around again at another day, another time. That time was yesterday.

I watched it intently…frozen on each scene with their son…finally it came and I heard it again. I couldn’t believe it? I thought I had heard it wrong the first time, but I didn’t.

Several years ago, my real Xwife, not the one Penwose talks about, was working at The Rio Hotel in Las Vegas. I would phone her and ask when she was clocking out? She would tell me, and I would say the line that ALWAYS made her laugh.
“OK…I’ll come over and ride you home!”

To anyone from Pittsburgh there is nothing wrong with that. I’ve told hundreds and they all say, “What’s wrong with that?”

To anyone else IN THE WORLD, it means “I’ll ride her like a horse,” to which she always replied, when done laughing, “You’re not riding me home.”
I could not stop saying that…It’s a Pittsburgh thing!

Back to The Thin Man…Are you ready?

Nick and Nora’s son asked…
“Who’s going to ride me to school tomorrow?”

Do you believe it? I have NEVER heard that line in a movie before!
I was floored!

Then it happened again…His mother, Myrna Loy replied,
“Don’t worry Dear…We’ll both ride you to school tomorrow.”

GAD ZOOKS! I was floored again!

I knew there had to be a Pittsburgh connection?

I never do research, but I did a search.

Great Googlie Mooglie!

William Powell, was born in Pittsburgh Pa.

I KNEW IT!

Somehow he inflicted those two lines into the script.

If you’re from Pittsburgh, it’s a small world.
