The article describes one of many major challenges that a single mother and her son who was born with physical deformities and multiply birth defects experienced.
As Antoine grew older, taking him to public places was not easy. He became very self-conscious about his appearance, as people would stare, often making comments that were not nice. When we went out to the bank, store, or other public places, he would scream until I took him home. he didn't realize that the more he screamed, the more attention he attracted.
After these outings, I was often depressed, because I was reacting to what I thought people were thinking. I knew in my heart and mind that he was a very intelligent, healthy, and lovable child. And yet, people were staring at him and me with looks of pity and disbelief. I kept telling myself that their thoughts and feelings about my son were not important.
For years I have been a student of Truth principles and I knew this experience in my life was a lesson for me and my son to learn. He would learn through my demonstration of those principles. To help me change my thoughts, I began to work with affirmations regarding Antoine's health and appearance. As I affirmed the perfect healing of Antoine, this thought came to me: For we walk by faith, not by sight. I meditated on this thought for a long time and began to feel calm and peaceful.
