We truly serve a wonderful God, even though at times we all have a tendency to forget it and strike out on our own. I have been with the Lord for over 30 years, a short time to some of you a long time to others, but every day with the Lord is a wonderful day.
I grew up in the typical American Christian home, but we never attended church. In all my years at home I only remember going to church about 3 times. The following is how I came to know the Lord personally.
When I was in my early twenties my dad and myself had a little construction company in Dayton Wyoming. We had a Baptist minister that worked us at the time. A wonderful man that never forced religion on you, him and myself would talk all day about the Lord, because I was always asking questions.
I had always wanted to be in law enforcement, mainly a deputy sheriff and I had been trying for a couple of years with no luck. Anyway one day around the end of October 1978 I was driving down the road in my dump truck and just out of the blue I told the Lord that I would worship him forever if he would get me a job as a deputy sheriff. I even named the department and where I wanted to work. I wanted to be a deputy sheriff with the Pennington County sheriff’s office in Rapid City, South Dakota and I left it at that continued on my way to haul dirt.
Remember this was the end of October 1978, the 4th of December 1978 I was working at the Pennington County sheriff’s office, Rapid City South Dakota. Our God is able. I have always felt that he never got me the job because I told him I would worship him the rest of my life, I have always felt that it was because he is God and he was showing me that he could do it. I wasn’t even saved at that time.
The second part of this is that I went to work on Monday the 4th of December 1978, however on Friday the 1st of December 1978 another person went to work for the sheriff’s office and this guy was an on fire Christian. Not only did God give me my job he put somebody there to lead me and help me to discover the Lord and to come to know him on a personal basis. This wonderful man took me under his wing and showed me what Christianity was all about and the following summer I asked the Lord Jesus into my life.
Our God is truly able and he is intimately interested in our lives from the smallest to the largest.
