Biblical Teaching ............ Esther - a courageous orphan Jewess who became queen of Persia, was faced with a choice to speak out and possibly die, or remain silent and deny her faith (Read Esther 2-10) Romans 13:1 - Everyone must submit himself to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. Throughout the book of Romans, the apostle Paul gives us guidance in our everyday lives and shows the pupose of God's laws and God's grace. Paul gives us the answer as to why we, God's children, should obey man's government. Paul explains that the government was established by God, and we are subjects under God. Scripture records that God set up three institutions: 1. God established the home and family (Genesis 1:28) to increase humanity's numbers and to subdue the earth. (Genesis 2:22-24) 2. God established the church to increase the number of disciples and spread the Good News of Christ and salvation. (Acts 2:42-44,47) 3. God established the government to be accountable unto God and to keep his commandments and laws. (Genesis 9:5-8) Leaders in government in Bible times who loved God and his laws, and made a positive impact on society include: David the second king of Israel followed God's direction during his reign, His descendant, Jesus, was the Messiah. (I Samule 16:13,19-23) Josaih: a young king who "did what was right in the eyes of the Lord and walked in all the ways of his father David, not turning aside to the right or to the left" (2 Kings 22:2). Josiah led his kingdom back to the Law of God and renewed the nations covenant with God. Jezebel wife of King Ahab who persecuted prophets of God. She tried to force her worship of Baal on God's people. (I Kings 16:31, 2 Kings 9:37) Saul: the first king of Israel disobeyed God. God, in turn, rejected Saul. The Lord was grieved that he had made Saul king over Israel. (I Samuel 15:35) Georgia Curtis Ling and Dr. Larry Richards are authors of "What's in the Bible for Women." In the new testament there was a woman caught in the act of adultery and the men wanted to stone her. To make the story short Jesus asked the woman where were her accusers? When he looked up no one was there but him and her. He told the woman to go her way and sin no more.
