Verse 8
But Daniel purposed in his heart that he would not defile himself ........... "with" the "portion" of the kings meat, nor with the wine which he drank: therefore he requested of the prince of the eunuchs that he might not defile himself.
"with" - Deuteronomy 32:28, Ezekiel 4:13, Hosea 9:3 (Read these scriptures in your spare time)
"portion" - King's meat
Verse 9
Now "God" "had" brought Daniel into favour and tender love with the prince of eunuchs.
"God" - Genesis 39:21, Psalm 106:46, Proverbs 16:7
But the LORD was with Joseph, and shewed him mercy and gave him favour in the sight of the keeper of the prison.
He made them also to be pitied of all those that carried them captives.
When a man's ways please the LORD, he maketh his enemies to be at peace with him.
"had" - made Daniel to find favour and compassion in the sight of the prince
Verse 10
And the prince of the eunuchs said unto Daniel, I fear my lord the king, who hath appointed your meat and your drink: for why should he see your faces "worse" liking than the "children" which are of your "sort?" then shall ye make me ........ my head to the king.
"worse" - sadder
"children" - youth which
"sort" - own age?
Verse 11
Then said Daniel to "Melzar," when the prince of eunuchs had "set" over Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah.
"Melzar" - the steward, whom; Or, The steward
"set" - appointed
Verse 12
Prove thy servants, I beseech thee, ten days; and let them give us "pulse," "to" eat, and water to drink.
"pulse" - of pulse
"to" - that we may eat
Verse 13
Then let our countenances be looked upon before thee, and the countenance of the "children" that eat of the portion of the king's meat: and as thou seest, deal with thy servants.
"children" - youths that eat of the king's meat
Verse 14
So he "consented" to them in this matter, and proved them ten days.
"consented" - hearkened unto them
Verse 15
And at the end of ten days then countenances appeared fairer and "father" in flesh than all the "children" which did eat "the" portion of the king's meat.
"fatter" - they were fatter
"children" - youths which
"the" - (the portion)
Verse 16
"Thus" Melzar took away the portion of their meat, and the wine that they should drink, and gave them pulse.
"Thus" - So the steward took away their meat.
Verse 17
"As" for these four "children," "God" gave them "knowledge" and skill in all learning and wisdom: and "Daniel" had "understanding" in all visions and dreams.
"As" - Now as far
"children" - youths
"God" - I Kings 3:12
Behold, I have done according to thy words: lo, I have given thee a wise and an understanding heart; ......... so that there was none like thee before thee, neither after thee shall any arise like unto thee.

And Moses was learned in all the wisdom of the Egyptians, and was mighty in words and deeds.
"Daniel" - Or, he made Daniel understand
Verse 18
"Now" at the end of the days "that" the king had "said" he should bring them in, then the prince of the eunuchs brought them in before Nebuchadnezzar.
"Now" - And at
"that" - which
"said" - appointed for bringing them in, the prince
Verse 19
And the king communed with them; and among them all was found none like Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah: therefore "stood" they before the king.
"Stood" - Daniel 1:5, Genesis 41:46
And Joseph was thirty years old when he stood before Pharaoh, king of Egypt. And Joseph went out from the presence of Pharaoh, and went throughout all the land of Egypt.
Verse 20
"And" in "all" matters of "wisdom" and understanding, that the ten times better than all the magicians and "astrologers" that were in all his realm.
"And" - I Kings 10:1
"all" - every matter
"wisdom" - wisdom of understanding
"astrologers" - enchanters that
