Nehemiah 4:1-3, 6-9, 13-15; 6:15
Verse 1
BUT it came to pass, "that" when Sanballat heard that we ... builded the wall, ... he was wrought, and took great indignation, and mocked the Jews.
"that" - Nehemiah 2:10; Psalm 2:1,4
When Sanballat the Horonite, and Tobiah the servant, the Ammonite, heard of it, it grieved the exceedingly that there was come a man to seek the welfare of the children of Israel.
WHY do the heathen rage, and the people imagine a vain thing?
He that sitteth in the heavens shall laugh: .......... the Lord shall have them in derision.
Psalm 145:19
Promise "W" - Whosoever Will May Be Saved
He will fulfil the desire of them that fear him: he also will hear their cry, and will save them.
Verse 2
Wherefore the king said unto me, Why is thy countenance sad, seeing thou art not sick? this is nothing else but "sorrow" of heart. Then I was very sore afraid.
"sorrow" - Proverbs 15:13
A merry hear maketh a cheeful countenance: but by sorrow of the heart the spirit is broken.
Verse 3
And said unto the king, "Let" the king live for ever: why should not my countenace be sad, when the "city" the place of my fathers' sepulchres, lieth waste, and ....... the gates ........ thereof are consumed with fire?
"Let" - I Kings 1:31
Then Bathsheba bowed with her face to the earth, and did reverence to the king, and said, Let my lord kind David live for ever.
I Kings 1:33
The king also said unto them, Take with you the servants of your lord, and cause Solomon my son to ride upon "mine" own mule, ......... and bring him down to Gibon.
"mine" - which belongeth to me. Esther 6:8 (You may read Esther 6:8 in your spare time)
the gates - The ancients held their meetings for council, business, and amusement at the gates of their cites. .............. The frame or door which closes a gate. A valve for controlling the passage of fluid.
Verse 6
So built the wall; ........... and all the wall was joined together unto the half thereof: ......... for the people had a mind to work.
wall - Psalm 122:7
Peace be within thy walls, and prosperity within thy palaces.
Peace - Shalom
wall - separating barrier; differences form a wall between people; A work or structure of stone, brick, or other materials, intended for defense or security, or for an enclosure.
Verse 7
But it came to pass that when Sanballat, and Tobiah, and the Arabians, and the Ammonites, and the Ashdodites, heard that the walls of Jerusalem "were" made up, and that the breaches began to stopped, then they were very wroth.
"were" - ascended - To go up
Acts 2:11
Cretes and Arabians, we do hear them speak in our tongues the wonderful works of God.

Verse 9
Nevertheless "we" made our prayer unto our God, and set a watch against them day and night, because of them.

L - The Lord's LOVE and Care for His Children
V- Victory over Enemies and Troubles
And call upon me in the day of trouble: I will deliver thee, and thou shalt glorify me.
Verse 13
Therefore set I "in" the lower places behind the wall, and on the higher places, I even set the people after their families with their swords, their spears, and their bows.
"in" - from the lower parts of the place, etc.
Verse 14
And I looked, and rose up, and said unto the nobles, and to the rulers, and to the rest of the people, "Be" not afraid of them: remember the Lord, which is great and terrible, and "fight" for your brethren, your sons, and your daughters, your wives, and your houses.
"be" - Numbers 14:9
Promise(s) - "S", "V"
S - Safety from all Harm and Danger Promised
V- Victory over Enemies and Troubles
Only "rebel" not ye against the LORD, neither "fear" ye the people of the land; for they "are" bread for us: their "defence" is departed from them, and the LORD is with us: fear them not.
"rebel" - Deuteronomy 9:7,23,24
Remember, and forget not, how thou provokedst the LORD thy God to wrath in the wilderness: from the day that thou didst depart out of the land of Egypt, until ye came unto this place, ye have been rebellious against the LORD.
Likewise when the LORD sent you from Kadesh-barnea, saying Go up and possess the land which I have given you: then ye rebelled against the commandment of the LORD your God, and ye believed him not, nor hearkened to his voice.
Ye have been rebellious against the LORD from the day that I knew you.
"fear" - Deuteronomy 20:3
And shall say unto them, Hear, O Israel, ye approach this day unto battle against your enemies: let not your hearts faint, fear not, and do not tremble, neither be ye terrified because of them.

For there are set thrones of judgment, the thrones of the house of David
Verse 15
And it came to pass, when our enemies heard that it was known unto us, "and" God had brought their counsel to nought, that we returned all of us to the wall, every one unto his work.
"and" - Psalm 33:10
The LORD "bringeth" the counsel of the heathen to nought: he maketh the devices of the people of none effect.
"bringeth" - maketh frustrate
Nehemiah 6:15
So the wall was finished on the twenty and fifth day of the month Elul, in fifty and two days.
Elul - the month of August-September
