Know How Your Own Reality Interconnects with Others
What you perceive, and what is someone else’s reality may differ. Often we see what we need to see/hear about/from another, not what is really occurring. If things seem to never be as you expect. Take an eagle’s eye look at the bigger picture.
Have Perceptive Awareness.
That which pushes our buttons most about someone else, is generally the thing that we most need to look at in ourselves. We can perceive that perhaps someone has let us down, but did they really? Did they even know what our expectation of them was?
So often in life, situations arise where someone or something can create stress or angst in our lives, not because of the intention of the other person, but because we are unable to perceive anything other than that which connects to some deep rooted negative experience, relationship or event in ourselves. The next time you find yourself angry, hurt or disappointed about the actions of another - take a step back, look at the bigger picture - what is it that you need to learn or address about yourself, in relation to that particular emotion or circumstance.
Ask yourself, were you listening to what the other person was saying, were you really seeing what they were actually doing. Often our expectation of the situation, creates our reality, but that reality is not what the other person intends. There will be times when others take advantage of this, implying what they know we need to be true , allowing us to deceive ourselves. There will be times, when we are so blinded by our own needs or desires, that we will be deceiving ourselves. Perceptive Awareness is being able to look at our own expectations, both positive and negative, against the bigger picture of what is happening around us, and assess whether events, relationships or experiences are confirming or denying our beliefs.
If you are always finding yourself as the Victim, what is it in your life, that is creating expectations of others, that they may know nothing about? Are they really failing you, or did they just not know what you were thinking or expecting?
An important aspect of Perceptive Awareness is conscious communication. Communicating your desires, expectations and beliefs to those you care about. Listening and hearing what they are also saying. Being sure that each of you understand the other will lead to more Perceptive Awareness of each other, rather than false expectation leading to disappointment and pain. Be Perceptive in your interactions with others. Be Perceptive about your own expectations of yourself and others.
