Did you know children can get exercise and a great learning experience with their parents at the UW Arboretum? Every month the Arboretum conducts two events especially for families. Because of financial support from the Friends of the Arboretum, the monthly family programs are free.
Family walks
The second Sunday of every month a family walk is held in the Arboretum and begins at 1:30 pm. You can expect each walk to take about an hour and is lead by an Arboretum naturalist. There is a different theme for each walk.
On November 14th the theme will be “Preparing for Winter”. Animals and plants living in the Arboretum prepare for winter long before the first snow flake hits the ground. The walk will teach children and adults how animals and plants prepare for winter.
Family Days
The fourth Sunday of every month (except November) families can work on making crafts together. In November Family Days will be held on November 14th from 12:30pm to 4:00 pm. On the 14th families will be making crafts to place in their yards at home for wildlife. Families can ‘drop-in’ anytime between 12:30pm to 4:30pm for this hands-on event.
