There are many ways to promote a child’s self esteem and confidence. If a child shows an interest in something, take the extra step in encouraging that interest. Whether it is art, music, reading, or gardening, provide the child with the necessary tools for their newfound pursuit. Let a child often know how valuable they are to you. In turn, they will realize their purpose is significant. Don’t step in and do things for your child because you know you can do it better and faster. Such a scenario promotes a sure feeling of failure. Encourage decision making and respect his or her ideas, even if they are different of farfetched. If he or she wants to be an astronaut, go to the library or research the internet so the child will learn more about their interest. Words and actions from parents are imperative to children.
