With A Vengeance
New poetry and picture book is an eloquent portrayal of life in the inner city
Cleveland, OH – (Release Date TBD) – Why do certain things, some bad, happen to some people? Is it because of where they live, or even who they are – their socio-economic status and racial identity? Let Keli Danice tackle these questions and more as she gives readers a glimpse of the inner city. Explore a wide gamut of emotions as bares her soul in an exquisite blend of poetry and photographs in her book, My Nemesis.
Nemesis, in Greek mythology, is the goddess of retributive justice or vengeance. In Keli Danice’s My Nemesis, majority of the poems are based on her life. Still young, her life nonetheless has already been eventful. She started drinking at a young age, been a victim of sexual and physical assault, and was homeless for a while. But, with courage and determination, she managed to bounce back and get her life in order. Her journey is something that she does not find easy to talk about. But, as most artists go through suffering and trial by fire, Keli believes this has deepened her sensitivity to the plight of others.
There are chapters where she talks about love, sex, tragedies, and the African-American community – so one purpose of this book is to show what life is like in the inner city. It portrays graphically how innocence can be lost, how young adults may resort to rebelliousness or even crime, and the failure of relationships. Though, in the end, if one has hope and fortitude, one can transcend this, as Keli as shown. With a vengeance.
