Thanks to former National Security Council member Paul O’Neill we now know that Bush intended to get America into war with Iraq long before the 9/11 attacks. His Administration consistently lied to the American people in making a case against Iraq. Bush’s goal to establish a U.S. base in Iraq smacks of American Supremacy. Because the United States is the dominant power in the post-Cold War Bush thinks he is in a position to impose his views, interests and values on other countries and the world. When he says freedom will prevail he means America will prevail. He has leveled Iraq and Afghanistan and saddled us with the burden of administering to both, without capturing Osama bin-Laden, the biggest mass murderer in U.S. history.

Bush’s American Supremacist ideology stands in direct opposition to the principle of a free and open society. American’s success is not available to others as we depend on our dominant position at the center of the global capital system, and we are not willing to yield it. In the last 30 years our government has helped finance air assaults in Afghanistan, Chile, El Salvador, Grenada, Iran, Libya, Lebanon, Nicaragua, Panama, the Sudan, Vietnam, Yugoslavia. We need to stop being a nation who solves problems by killing people.

Concerning global commerce the U.S. has had a history of overtaking the autonomy and economy of small countries with large corporations. For example U.S. corporations and the World Trade Organization are placing pressure on farmers of other countries to buy genetically altered seeds that kill their own embryos. This means the farmers will always have to buy new seeds and pesticides from a few large American agricultural corporations who control these genetically altered seeds and crops.

The war on Iraq has more to do with the need for power, oil and money than with ending terrorism or enhancing homeland security. On the contrary the war endangers our security by engendering a vicious cycle of escalating violence. Bush invaded Iraq on false pretenses about weapons of mass destruction and deceived the American public and Congress and disregarded the opinions of our allies.

Bush will do everything in his power to maintain military supremacy including his right to pre-emptive war—which means he has the right to kill people in case they want to attack us.

He has taken a nation that in the wake of 9/11 enjoyed nearly universal sympathy and support, and through his wars and threats to increase our "star war" defense system turned us into a nation almost universally despised.

The terrorist attack on the U.S. should have been treated as a crime against humanity rather than an act of war. Crime requires intelligence gathering and police work not military action. Military action requires a target country whereas terrorists are by definition non-country actors—even if countries sponsor them.

Protection against terrorism requires precautionary measures and awareness. If September 11 had been treated as a crime we would not have invaded Iraq or Afghanistan and our soldiers would not be forced to do police duty in combat gear and continue to be killed. The thousands of civilians who died in Afghanistan and Iraq since 9/11 would still be alive. Military action should be a last resort.

Bush cannot see that if we want other countries to destroy their weapons of mass destruction we must set an example. Only when we have destroyed our own do we have the right to tell North Korea, India, Pakistan, Israel and the rest of the world that they don’t need such weapons. After all we are the nation that killed more people with nuclear weapons than any of the other nuclear nations combined. Seventy thousand people died in one minute when we bombed Japan in World War II. Then twice as many died slowly from the inside.

Bush’s alliance with the Sharon government has allowed the peace process in the Middle East to crumble resulting in some of the worst slaughter since he became President.

His Administration is rolling back the progress made in the 20^th century. He has dismantled our system of environmental protections and our civil rights and liberties. He has destroyed social programs, accumulating a huge national deficit and demolished Iraq and Afghanistan and burdened us with administering to both. He has not addressed our weak economy, our high unemployment rate and he has allowed more children to slip into poverty, ignorance and despair.

Bush has done little to promote peace, justice, freedom and human rights. He has not tried to negotiate settlements or alleviate suffering at home or abroad. He has yet to learn that he cannot beat terrorism by blowing up countries.
