The only miracle Muhammad admits to was to write the Koran (The Moslem Bible) as he never went to school and could not write his name.

Islam comes from the word "Salam" which means "peace and surrender." The full meaning of Islam is the perfect peace that comes when we surrender to God.

Muhammad, a humble, pure hearted, honest and gentle Arab " was told by Allah (meaning "The God") in the 6th Century AD while meditating in a cave that he would be a prophet for Allah.

Muhammad asked that the people not look up to him but to the greatness and glory of Allah. The only miracle he admits to was to write the Koran (The Moslem Bible) as he never went to school and could not write his name.

Muhammad had a sad childhood. Both parents died by the time he was six years and he went to live with an uncle after his grandfather died at the age of 9 years. His grief made him sensitive to the suffering of others. He married a wealthy widow at age 25 years who was 15 years older and his marriage was a happy one. She was his comforter, believed in him and was his first convert as a prophet of God.

Muhammad meditated in a cave near Mecca for 15 years, sometimes all night. He slowly began to hear the voice of Allah. At first Muhammad was afraid of Allah's voice and told his wife he had either become a prophet or gone mad. Allah told him to write the Koran and to preach. In spite of persecution and insult, he wrote and preached about the glory of Allah for the next 23 years.

Allah said there is only one God and Muhammad would be a prophet.

Muhammad also became a gifted and brilliant administrator for the city of Medina for he had an ideal blend of justice and mercy. At the same time he lived a very humble life, mending his clothes and milking goats.

The Koran speaks of Allah being an all mighty, all-merciful, all-powerful, all loving Lord and Creator of life. Allah created the earth without fault and his highest creation is man.

A person is considered completely responsible for their actions on earth. Their happiness or misery in the afterlife depends on how well they observed Allah's laws.

The Koran tells how we should treat our fellow man. It teaches how to walk in a straight path through the five pillars of Islam.

The first pillar is to speak and believe in the Islamic creed. "There is no God

but Allah, and Muhammed is his prophet."

The second pillar is to be "constant" in prayer. To affirm that God is our creator and to submit to His will. A Muslim is asked to pray at least five times a day and to recite the Koran on Fridays during prayer. Prayers should speak of gratitude and praise.

The third pillar is to give to the poor and less fortunate at least a quarter of the value of our possessions each year.

The fourth pillar is to observe Ramadon, the Holy month by fasting from daybreak to sundown. It is good to fast as it makes people think and teaches them self-discipline. It is also humbling as it reminds people of their frailty and helps them understand how it feels to be hungry and sensitive to those in need.

The fifth pillar is to make a pilgrimage to Mecca at least once in a lifetime. This heightens the pilgrim’s devotion to Allah. It also reveals Allah’s will and reminds the pilgrim that all people are equal in Allah's eyes.
