Have you ever wondered how you got overweight? I did. For the longest time I had people tell me they were surprised at how big I was since they rarely seen me eat, and when they did I didn’t seem to eat very much. While this was true when looking back I did pound in the calories, I just did it by selecting the worst options and eating often when nobody was looking (my fellow midnight gorgers know exactly what I am talking about). Even now I still feel a craving to pig out as it gets closer to midnight, as should be expected since I spent the first twenty years doing exactly that. Here is where shocking your body with a restrictive diet that limits your calories and tells you exactly what to eat comes in handy, it allows you to rethink what you eat, when you eat and how much you eat.

What you eat is the first point in the triangle to fatness. Many of us spend most of our adult lives making all the wrong food choices. If we are having lunch out we pick the burger and fries instead of the chicken sandwich and side salad. Why do we do this? Simple the burger and fries taste better, or at least we think they do because we are use to getting the burger and fries, we have been getting the burger and fries for a long time, it is lunch at a burger and fries type of place what else would we order? It is an accumulation of simple choices like this that lead us down the trail to fatness. Check out the people in the grocery store and you will see what I mean. Overweight people will walk right by the fresh fruit to get to the pastries, they will skip the nuts and get the potato chips, and they get the sugar that is basically a bowl of water. It is all these simple choices that get us to where we no longer want to be. I can remember grocery shopping when I was overweight and looking back I am surprised I am still alive. I would have pizza, ice cream, cookies, chips, white bread, the good tasting peanut butter, soda, pastries and candy, oh then I would top it off with a carton of cigarettes. Seriously how is my heart still ticking, I mean I did that for twenty years as an adult and my eating as a child wasn’t a lot better. Think about it a “normal” diet is basically two thousand calories a day I was eating close to four times that a day hard to believe the pounds kept piling on.
When you eat is point number two on the triangle to fatness. Did you know one of the things that made me fat was not eating breakfast? In fact I typically wouldn’t eat till after 1pm on any given day. Then I would have a big lunch and not eat again until around 8pm when I had an even bigger dinner followed by an endless gorge fest. Seriously if I would have kept at this I could have found my way to the four hundred pound mark! Now I look back in shock that I thought this was a good idea. Now I know to eat every couple of hours and I always have breakfast. Even when I am traveling I always make sure I have breakfast even if that means keeping bananas and protein bars in my hotel room, nobody is messing with my breakfast. I always take protein bars with me when I go out and keep a box in my car so I know I can eat something every two to three hours.
The final point of the fatness triangle is how much you eat. Your stomach is the size of your fist anytime you eat more than this you are eating more food than you were meant to. Now we all have times when we more than exceed that limit, but I use to do it every time I ate. If I was having cookies I would eat half a bag, ice cream by the quart or half gallon, a whole large pizza, a twelve inch sub sandwich with chips, you get the idea. Portion control is something we need to get a hold of to really be able to get our weight problems under control.
This is the value of shocking your body, once you begin eating the right things, at the right times and in the right portions your body begins to run the right way which naturally results in weight coming off. So don’t be a victim of the triangle of fatness, take control of your diet and you will see the weight loss you are looking for.
