Now is the time for me to decide. What rules are most important?

Last year, several of these worked well in high school:

1. Remember where you are

*this is not the mall

*you aren't on a date

*this is not the cafeteria

2.  Bring your materials with you

3. Keep hands to yourself.  NO touching!

4. Complete work each day

As I think about last year, I believe I will crack down more on snacks in the room.

I always told the students that if I couldn't pass a piece of paper between them, they were sitting too close.

I would like to hear from some other teachers out there about their favorite and most necessary class rules.

Last year, I ran the class loosely.  This time, I will take charge from day 1.  Too many of my students saunter in and ask meaningless questions.

"Do we have to write today?"

(Yes,  this is an English class.  You will read and write daily.)

"Does this count?"

(Yes, everything counts.)

Bess,

I like your rules. I remember posting rules in my class when I was teaching because I felt the kids needed daily reminders. And oh yes, the first couple of weeks of really having to be strict to let them know who was in charge.
