There is nothing so satisfying as discovering a mystery writer, hitherto unknown, who has written scads of books readily available on the shelf of my favorite library.
Such is the case of Jeanne M. Dams. I'm halfway into this mystery, set in the US in early 1900's. Hilda is a Swedish maid who likes an attractive and ineligable Irish Catholic man. Her little brother falls into frightening hazards, and Hilda seeks his safety.
The charm of the book lies in the details skillfully painted into the story. I think I'm on my way to being an avid reader. This tale is engaging and enlightening, not insulting to my intelligence, yet not poderous and pedantic. The mystery and romance are apt and believable. I'm only halfway through, so I don't know whether Hilda overcomes her family's disapproval of Patrick's nationality and religion. However, I'm well-hooked and will know before lunchtime.
