Miss Wonderful, Lord Perfect, Lord of Scoundrels, and Knave's Wager; I've read them all this week.
I know. It's ridiculous. But these make for fabulously fun reading. Like finding clear water in a desert--and I haven't been in the desert lately. I've discovered some great writers, but Loretta Chase combines abilities of several favorites.
Mr. Impossible is like Elizabeth Peter's Amelia Peabody with the heat turned up.
Miss Wonderful reminds me of a Mary Balogh. The rambunction Carsington brothers emanate almost Bedwyn-type charisma. Lord of the Scoundrels is much darker, like one of Lisa Kleypas' most ornery heros.
Perhaps most touching of all is Lord Perfect. I like the heroine--she's a widowed artist trying to scrape together a living. In walks a handsome lord who shouldn't give her a second glance. The matter is complicated by her daughter and his nephew who combust in hilarious form.
All are as witty as Heyer, but lighter and sweeter. Sensual content is steamy--not for the kiddies. I won't give details--just advise readers to run to the library or Barnes and Nobles and stock up. These will make great cruise reading. I borrowed several from the library, but some I must have for keeps.
