A step by step set of writing prompts to help students write more

    Why don't they put pen to paper?  Some students have no confidence.  Some are steeped in apathy toward all things academic.  We must test and trick them into it.

Here are some of my latest writing prompts as we attempt to write a narrative story:

Describe your main character--protagonist.  How does she think?  Is she in love? Is she tough?  A good listener?  Does she have super powers?  Talents? 

What are her goals?  What do her best friends say about her?

What is her best subject in school? Her hidden longing?

Now, design an appearance that portrays her personality.

 Next--design an antagonist.  Why doesn't she like Character A? What are her faults?  What foul deeds does she have in mind?  Will there be a point of crisis in your story?  Will she bring about the climax? Who hangs out with her?  Who thinks she's cool? What does she look like?
