When I check out a Susan Elizabeth Phillips book, I lose sleep.

I skip the middle.  I stay up to late trying to skim to the end.  She breaks a lot of my "rules," but I can't quit reading.  There is too much sex in the books. Sometimes, there are strong cuss words.  But the emotional storylines always hook me in.
   This heroine is a girl after my own heart.  Messy, creative, funny underachiever who falls for a gorgeous sports agent guy.  You can read the plot line on Amazon, so I won't give that here--but I loved this book, where I hated the last one I read by Phillips.  It was Ain't She Sweet, and there was too much insecurity and revenge in that one, although the happy ending was there.       Even that one was so intriguing I stayed up to all hours finding the ramifications and convolutions.  The thing is--when Phillips writes, you believe the characters.  There is emotional wisdom and humor, and the people could be your neighbors.  The guys are larger than life, but this is romance, after all.   My favorite facet of this author is her optimism and kindness.  There is room in her heart for everyone, not just the "winners." Even the dysfuntional folks have hope. I feel good after I'm finished, and I think a lot about life and relationships and the worth of everyone in the world.
