Carol describes the children, the youngest Callie, who are all excited about the fight as being, "like good dogs, mouths drolling, tails wagging in anticipation". Her depiction of this hilarious kitchen scene is classic. Not for one moment do you feel like it was violence to her. To her, it was was much fun as she could have as she wriggled around on the floor screaming, "Git him, Mama, git him."
The pace never slows. Carol is a story teller and her story is told in a coherent, chronological way. Going from story to story you realise it is true when she calls herself a chaos magnet. Absolutely no one has ever lived the kind of extraordinary life she did and not come out feeling like a victim.
