Spirituality to me implies peace, happiness and equanimity. Many spiritual leadeers espouse surrender without explaining it profoundly and subjectively which results in confusion. This effort is an attempt in the reverse direction.
Ronald Reagan had once remarked,” One can get a lot done if one does not care who gets the credit.” This is desirable but only from a certain point of view. Recently, a magazine cited the example of a music composer whose notes are plagiarized by another composer. Instead of fuming and fretting on meeting him, he helps the dishonest composer perform even better and the latter is overwhelmed.
From the spiritual point of view, Surrender is considered desirable but what about the management context.?
In the company in which I was executive assistant to managing director and responsible for coordination, the plan prepared by a junior executive would be hijacked midway and presented to the senior management. This used to cause a lot of heartburn and was a loss both ways because in this manner talent too concealed from the management .
In another company, the person at the junior level was extremely smart, took the bull by the horns and after outsmarting the middle management directly got in touch with the chairman. As a result of this, the Chairman was so impressed that he made him directly report to him. Over the next two years, he helped the chairman build an empire overseas which was better from overall spirituality seen from a larger perspective.(Peace, happiness and equanimity for everybody)
The principle of unity of command which implies that one person should have only one boss is implemented in a wrong manner. It actually implies that only the instructions should go down through the immediate subordinate. Nobody has patent rights on ideas and they can come from any where and therefore there should be a totally transparent ideas meeting in which anybody can contribute ideas.
No one person has a mortgage on good ideas. We can all be ideas people.

Taking this one would concur nothing works all the time and everything has to be done with discretion and discrimination. So even if the ‘Surrender ‘ principle is desirable, one has to understand what exactly it implies and how to make it practicable in all circumstances. There is a time to confront, a time to surrender and it since it would mean different things to different people, one has to devise different plans for different people to practice ‘Surrender’ differently.
One needs to bring some management to spirituality just as one tries to bring spirituality in management because what is relevant in one context is irrelevant in another context.
