Can negative directly result in positive and is therefore good. This article explores that issue.

Practically everybody has heard of the maxim” Sweet are the results of adversity” It is a well known fact that an adverse incident is bound to teach something. We, in fact learn more from adversity than anything else.

Here, however, we are not going to discuss that. This article deals with the fact that Negative directly leads to positive. Several examples can be mentioned to cite that. For example, after September 11, USA’s attitude on terrorism changed completely and this benefited not only India but a lot of third world countries. Even in India, in the year 1992, liberalization was introduced only when the foreign exchange problems got out of control. There was no option but to introduce economic reforms to remedy the situation. Similarly war between nations such as India and Pakistan has become impossible with the advent of Nuclear weapons which are generally perceived to be in a negative light from the peace point of view. It is widely believed that the progress of Germany and Japan was directly a result of problems faced by them at the end of World war II.

Even in the B Bhagvad Gita, Arjun listned to Lord Krishna probably because he was in a disturbed and therefore, receptive frame of mind. Who knows how he would have reacted to the discourse in normal circumstances because among the five brothers, only Yudhistir was really intellectually inclined and would have probably listened in all circumstances.

This clearly shows that without danger, one cannot go beyond danger. This can be seen in minor examples in one’s day to day life as well. For example, children would not study seriously if exams were not there in the first place which many so called modern educationists advocate. In India, though seat belts in cars have been around for a very long time, they started being used seriously only a couple of years back when accidents started getting out of control. Light is switched on only to remove darkness. If darkness does not exist, where is the need for light ?

One can infer from the above that when something negative happens in your life, one has to try and pinpoint what positive has been made practicable because of the negative. Sometimes one can even be proactively negative to ensure a positive end result. It is being cruel in order to be kind. One father wanted his son to wash hands before meals. Realizing the futility of appeals, he took his son to a doctor friend of his and showed him what germs were under a microscope. Thereafter, he was shown a video film on what harms germs could do. The boy got so frightened that on his own, he never ceases to wash his hands before meals.

One can infer therefore that sometimes there is nothing wrong in being proactively negative as one cannot go northords without going southwards. Even in a swimming pool, the more you surpress the diving board the higher you go.
