Has know thyself ever been implemented? I doubt it.

Some time ago, I read an article in the Times of India. It stated that there was a taxi driver in New York who was seemingly very intelligent. On being questioned about his background, he stated that he had actually qualified as a child psychologist but because driving was his passion, he was doing that.

By coincidence, I happened to be reading Po Bronson’s “What should I do with my life” ? There , there are fifty such examples. The most interesting seemed to be that of a high profile business owner (fortune five hundred company owner) who disowned his business to become a cop. Considering some of the severe career switches, it is clear that the principle of “Know Thyself” is followed more in letter than spirit. It is a great pity that despite of having a tremendous headstart, applied spirituality lags behind applied science in several respects. It is not uncommon to come across spiritual literature professing “Know thyself” but what is the point of having all the knowledge in the world when even in the 21st century, the implementation is going to be so poor. The education system is hardly doing anything proactively to improve matters and this is a very serious problems because if the career you are going to choose itself is wrong, all the waking hours are miserable and as somebody said:-

If you want to be happy for a day, go on a picnic.
If you want to be happy for a week, go on a vacation
If you want to be happy for a month, get married.
If you want to be happy for a year, inherit property.
If you want to be happy for a lifetime, get the job that you like.
