The most important symbol of America to me is the American flag.

The Pledge of Allegiance has been taught to groups of school children since its inception.  It is believed by many that Betsy Ross, a seamstress, made the first flag. In June of 1877 Congress passed a law to establish the official flag of the United States with thirteen stars.  In1818 the new law provided for the flag’s thirteen stripes and a star for each state.  The nickname for our flag was Old Glory and it still flies in its beauty and elegance.

Another symbol of America is our nation’s Statue of Liberty.

It was France’s gift to the United States. Construction began in France in 1865 and completed in Paris in 1884. The statue was shipped to the United States in 214 crates in 1885. Grover Cleveland was our president at the time.

He accepted the statue on behalf of the people of the United States. It stands in its own grandeur to welcome visitors to our country.

 In 1782 our Founding Fathers created the official Seal of the United States. The seal conveyed natural elements and symbols. They continue to convey the original forefathers’ vision they had for this country. The eagle’s prominent part of the seal is impressive. I suppose the eagle itself can be considered a symbol of America. When the seal is used on documents it symbolizes its importance. The entire group of America’s symbols is an interesting part of our history.
