We don't have to be religious to be spiritual, do we? What exactly do I mean by being spiritual? The Merriam-Webster Dictionary says that spiritual means: "Ecclesiastical rather than lay or temporal." It also states, "Of or relating to sacred matters." There is that word -- SACRED. Peace comes from sacred things, not from the mundane. I truly believe the complete definition of SPIRITUAL should include loving those who are unlovely, don't you think?
If we desire inner peace, we must first realize that a saint has a past and a sinner a future. Consider the following: Persons who enter a house of prostitution leave there spiritually dead. But believe it or not, a prostitute who speaks the truth will find peace sooner than a hypocrite or a blasphemer.
One way you can be positive that you'll obtain some peace in your soul is to realize that the world and its standards have turned away from God's standards. "Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord" (Psalm 33: 12). But you can be assured that God will not send his wrath in any old direction if you come to have purity and humility (Genesis 18: 22-32). You can implore God to receive divine protection. I now cite John 14: 27, "Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afriad."
Here is a list of some beneficial insights gleaned from the scriptures:
1. Power and strength come only from God.
2. Hear the rebuke of a wise person rather than a wicked man's anointing (Psalm 141: 5).
3. If you truly walk uprightly, you will not lack any good thing (Psalm 34: 10).
4. Peace comes from obeying God, not men.
5. Life is full of tribulation, but be faithful and not necessarily successful.
6. The wicked person has no real peace at all.
7. God will contend with those who contend with you (Psalm 35: 1).
8. Your comfort in affliction is God's promise (He is perfect and his promises are trustworthy).
9. God can and does heal the brokenhearted.
10. If you are humble, you will be adorned with victory over evil.
11. When we are afflicted, we learn of divine things.
12. If the earth should change, you have no need to fear.
13. Those who love God (above all) have unending peace; they cannot stumble.
14. When you pray for your enemies, God showers you with inner peace.
15. Never augment your material wealth by stealth, for you will surely lose it.
16. Only wrongdoing keeps good from you.
17. Holiness (being like God) is not related to space at all, like a piece of property. It is rather behavioral in nature.
