Peace, joy, love, and self-control are a few of the everlasting possessions.
Please be advised, dear reader, that the more material possessions you acquire or hoard, the more anxiety you can expect. Only possess what is absolutely necessary, and any clutter in your mind will disappear. I personally keep material clutter in check by dropping off items I no longer need at the Disabled American Veterans thrift store. I don't recommend "Good Will" stores, for I heard negative news about them. Also there are many more of these types of places to look into if you have gently used items that can benefit others in need, like battered women's shelter thrift shops. Do your research on them. Instead of cluttering up my life with "things" or useable items getting thrown into the trash, they can, once again, benefit the less fortunate. If we embrace the Word of God, we will have the most valuable possession. Listen to what Luke 12: 15 (RSV) says : "A man's life does not consist in the abundance of his possessions."
The philosophy of "more is better" is just plain empty and deceiving. I've seen a trend, at least all over the United States, where storage centers have proliferated. As people accumulate or buy more material things, they need more space to put their "stuff." So many advertisements dominate our culture today to suggest that we need this or we need that. What we really need is to rejuvenate our thought processes and our value systems in order to see the real needs we have instead of buying what the TV or billboard might suggest. I watched a few of the hoarder shows on TV and I couldn't believe my eyes; that some folks are stuck in so much clutter that they actually have a sickness. Some even have health-risky living conditions. Wow!
Always remember that a house emptied of moral principles is vulnerable to the wickedness of Satan. He wants to "sift like wheat" as many as he can, because he knows his time to foster evil is limited. Never try to possess utopian ideals, since history has revealed that those ideals have galvanized human beings.
I do embrace the fact that money is like a hammer. It can be used as designed; to drive a nail, or it can be used to smash a window. Always remember that honesty translates into mental health, dishonesty into mental illness. Neutralize every self-sabotaging impulse when it comes to possessions.
