SOMETIMES YOU MAY FEEL WORTHLESS OR EVEN LIKE A COMPLETE FAILURE, BUT LOOK AT THE SPARROWS.
You are certainly "worth more than many sparrows" (Matthew 10: 31 RSV). Sometimes you may feel worthless or even like a complete failure. Perhaps this feeling came about by other's ridicule or never being cheered by your parents when you grew up (kids need a cheerleader). Cheer up; you have more hidden treasure than you may think. It is in vain when we fear any evil tidings. That's one of the benefits of being a Christian, fearing only God. Your eyes are the lens of your whole body. Be very careful what you allow yourself to see and look for in this life. If you concentrate your waking hours to look for the attributes of real love (God is love), you will do well. "Love never keeps a record of wrongs" (Proverbs 17: 9). You will definitely prosper if you keep your life free from the love of money. "Love is patient and love is kind" (1 Corinthians 13: 4). It is also long-suffering in a certain context. Look at Jesus Christ (second person of the Holy Trinity) and see what his long-suffering is all about. Grab the bull by the horns and start living abundantly in the Spirit. Consider the fact that once I was nearly dyslexic. My self-worth was low. I rose above that and realized that if I put my mind to it, and with the help of Microsoft Word, and God, I could become a published or unpublished writer. We certainly are worth much more than many sparrows, aren't we? If you seek real love, then you will automatically cast away low self-esteem and any fears you have.
Is it not true that this modern-day world as you know it seems to lack genuine love? This is a direct result of covetousness and hate, I believe. But we Christians have the power and ability to change the world by being aglow with the Spirit (a smile and thankfulness), and with temperate living as a contrast to the darkness that appears to prevail everywhere. We definitely need to feel prosperous and fulfilled. Have you tasted and have you seen yet that the Lord is good (Psalm 34: 8)? Remember this: In all your getting, make sure you ask for understanding (Psalm 119: 34).
We are all surely worth so much more than a few sparrows. God tells us so. The sparrows just fly, perch in the trees, and eat. Well, they mate and reproduce too, all in God's wonderful creation. Why would we want to spend our few days on this earth wondering where the next dollar will come from to pay the bills? The sparrows don't wonder or even worry where their food will come from. God feeds them, and so he feeds us too. "Give us this day, our daily bread" (Luke 11: 3). The Lord tells us to pray like that. When we seek the Kingdom first, then everything else we need will be provided, just like for the sparrows. Try to remember this: "Better is a dry morsel with quiet than a house full of feasting with strife" (Proverbs 17: 1). Sparrows get plenty of those morsels, don't they? When we turn away from the vain attractions of this world, the book of Ecclesiastes becomes crystal clear for us. Renew your mind and remember the sparrows. Only in Christ can we be real human beings.
